Where can I buy fabric treated with zinc oxide, and has a UPF rating?
I don’t like the sun protection clothing out there and want to design my own. However, I can not for the life of me figure out where to buy such fabric in a variety of colors. Right now I am looking for a cotton that has been treated with zinc oxide so the sun protection is built into the fabric. Does anybody have any leads?
I doubt such fabric exists. Zinc oxide is made to go on your skin to form a film barrier to block UV. A tightly woven fabric will have the same or better effect. Many tightly woven nylon and polyester fabrics block enough UV to be naturally 30 to 50 UPF. Cotton would be problematic since the fibers are so soft they cannot be woven tightly enough to block light. You need a fiber that is monofilament.
